David Milton Rose, M.D., MPH

We celebrate the life of David Milton Rose as he adored his family, friends, colleagues, and patients. He is preceded in death by his father Ralph Adrian Rose, his mother Jeanne Petit Rose, his brother Marc Rose, and his grandbaby, Logan Rose. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sabrina Quintana, D.M.A.; Dallas Rose, his son and grandchildren, Dawson, Delaney, and Rylan Rose; son Alexander Rose, wife Jackie, and grandchildren Theodore and Lincoln David Rose; son Max Rose, his partner Esther, granddaughter Nora and an unborn grandchild; son, James Rose; and his former spouse, Mary Lynn Davis; his two step-daughters Jessica Hays, Kaliah Hays and her husband Jeremy Williams; two sisters Miriam Rose and Anne Rose Ped, her husband Rick Ped and their children Madeleine and Rory; nephew Adam Rose; cousin Dominique Knull and her son Joel; and cousin Marie-Claude, her husband Otto Jung, their daughter, Katja, and sons Marc and Christian. He also leaves behind many relatives in France. A resident of Boston and Springfield, Massachusetts, David was born in Seattle and grew up in Seattle, France, then most of his youth in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Boston where he pursued his education, graduating Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Biological Technology at Northeastern University, a Master of Public Health degree in Biostatistics Epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health and his Doctor of Medicine degree, with an emphasis in Hematology Oncology from Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Rose worked for several years with the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Boston where he was involved in medical research. He designed, implemented and managed a national VA online clinical trial data management system, VA national clinical data resource which led directly to the development of the VA Pharmaco-Epidemiology Program, protocols for a VA national biorepository and the development of a nationwide VA sponsored brain bank, he designed and co-authored numerous VA sponsored clinical trials, and he designed a VA national web based electronic IRB management system. As a Medical Doctor, he first practiced medicine, working as a Hospitalist in Boston. After he retired from the VA in 2017, he began practicing internal and geriatric medicine in Springfield and West Springfield, MA. He loved his colleagues and patients and felt so personally enriched by helping others. David had a zest for life and a huge personality that could fill a room. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He had many hobbies and projects, including creating leather crafts, various art media, and had begun teaching his grandson. He loved making his signature caramel recipes that he had developed. He shared his love through these experiences with others. David is free from the pain and suffering he encountered in recent months. He was planning a nice day on Saturday (Sept 19th, 2020) with his family, requesting his mother’s recipe of boeuf bourguignon. Before he went to sleep Friday evening, he texted Sabrina, “I’m glad we’ve had this time together and that I’ve come to know this gracious giving soul that is you.” When Sabrina awoke early Saturday morning, she found that David had passed away peacefully while sleeping during the night at their Springfield home. A Christian, David is in heaven with God, reuniting with his mother, brother, and grandbaby. He is loved and will be dearly missed. David was so grateful to those who cared for him throughout his illness, including the Thoracic Cancer and Radiation Oncology teams at MGH.
