Robert S. Britt Jr.

WEST SPRINGFIELD - Robert S. Britt Jr. died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 14,1945 to the late Robert S. and Marion (Dragon) Britt, Bob graduated from Northampton High School where he was better known as “SHARKEY” because of his love for poker and shooting pool. As a young adult he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Shortly after graduating from high school he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps. During his third month of basic training Bob was granted a medical discharge from the U.S. Marines. After his military training he attended and graduated from New England Institute of Mortuary Science in Boston, Massachusetts and worked for Watson Funeral Home there. In the late 1960’s he moved to Alaska where he acquired Walsh Mortuaries in Seward and Kenai, Alaska. Bob also later developed Saldotna Funeral Home in Saldotna, Alaska. After opening and operating his third funeral home, Bob expanded his entrepreneurial skills by opening a car wash and investing in other real estate adventures throughout Alaska. After living in Alaska for 10 years, Bob moved to California where he spent the next several years living and working in San Francisco and Eureka. Eventually he moved to Hawaii where he operated an avocado and coffee bean farm on Maui. In the mid 1980’s Bob returned to Western Massachusetts where he served his community for over 20 years by working in the Funeral Service industry. As an adult Bob earned the nickname “RACOON”. He also enjoyed trips to Reno and Las Vegas, investing in the stock market, purchasing and selling antiques, and loving his late wife, Caren Stewart Britt, who predeceased him on May 15, 2010. Bob is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Britt and her husband, Harold Smith, of Virginia and his twin daughters, Jannette Britt and Marie Britt, of California ; his brothers, Richard Britt and his wife, Karen, of Springfield, Massachusetts, Paul Britt and his wife, Patti Roguz-Britt, of Goshen, Massachusetts; nephews, Scott and Anthony Britt; and nieces, Vicki and Gianna Britt, all of Springfield, Massachusetts.
