Paul B. D'Angelo

Feeding Hills - Paul Bennett D’Angelo, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He was 78 years old. Paul was born in Springfield, MA on June 15, 1946 to Elizabeth (Bennett) and Frank D’Angelo. He spent his childhood in Longmeadow, MA and attended Longmeadow High School, where he played soccer, participated in track & field, and sought out any opportunity to have fun with his friends, of which he had many. In 1968, Paul was drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. He bravely defended our country until his honorable discharge in 1970 when he returned home a changed man. Although he had come back without physical injuries, his time in Vietnam left a lifelong impact on his mental health which caused him to fight internal battles for the years to come. Paul would do anything for a laugh and made sure to find humor in all situations. He was happiest when he was listening to Frank Sinatra’s music (at maximum volume), swimming in the ocean, going for long drives, and making memories with his family and friends. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Penny D’Angelo (Hulit), and his daughters, Laura D’Angelo-Gohn (son-in-law Alex Gohn) of Enfield, CT and Lucy D’Angelo (son-in-law Ryan Hastings) of Agawam, MA. He is survived by his three siblings: Judi Dickson of Carmichaels, PA; Debbie D’Angelo of Springfield, MA; and Frank D’Angelo Jr. of Agawam, MA, as well as many other relatives and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth. We will come together to celebrate Paul’s life on August 9, 2024. Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the New England Funeral & Cremation Center located at 25 Mill Street in Springfield, MA. At 2:00 p.m., a burial service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Baystate Medical Center and East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, where Paul received compassionate care during his final weeks. Memorial donations may be made in Paul’s name to The Battle Within, an organization dedicated to providing all Veterans and First Responders with mental and behavioral support. Paul truly embodied the lyrics of “My Way” (as performed by his favorite singer) and he marched to the beat of his own drum throughout his entire life. He will be missed dearly and forever remembered for his signature quirks and wild sense of humor.
